If I had a nickel for every time someone asked me how they can start learning SEO or how they can rank their website #1!
Rank #1? FOR WHAT?

Person: What do you mean for what?

Me: Yeah, for what keyword, etc do you want to rank for? You can’t just rank for anything and everything, you understand?

Person: Oh…not really.

And so it goes that many conversations go like that, granted some people are well aware of the seo scope more less. Nevertheless, the people that want to learn it cause they need something quick will often try to work fast, get frustrated and never truly understand some of the basic aspects of search engine optimization and the process that goes into optimizing a website long-term.

If you don’t really have the time or patience, I really wouldn’t recommend trying to start optimizing a website but then again, trying to learn anything new is always a good experience.

The more time you invest learning about search engine optimization (like anything else) the more success you’ll have as knowledge is power. The internet is one of the world’s greatest resources, and it just may be for search engine optimization.

In order to understand SEO, it’s very important you understand how the search engine works, how it ranks websites, what signals are most popular, understanding search results, understanding the meaning of domain authority, inbound linking, outbound linking, etc.

What can you do to start learning SEO?

-FORUMS: Forums are really a great Q&A forum for those starting out in SEO. Don’t always trust what you read in forums of course but look through threads and look for the very basic questions to start. Google: “SEO FORUMS”

-SEO Blogs: So much good content is put in a daily basis when it comes to seo. Some of the worlds best SEOs actually blog about all topics related to SEO. While a lot of the stuff is advanced, look for basic post from blogs such as SEOBook.com, SEOmoz.org. Check out SearchEngineLand and SearchEngineJournal daily to read daily stories. Checkout DailySEOtip.com.

-SEO Tutorials: Go on YouTube and search for SEO tutorials and videos. You should find decent content that will teach you the very basics regarding meta tags, on-site optimization, off-site optimization. Look for the Google Webmaster channel for some good information.

-Industry Conferences: Going to conferences such as Search Engine Strategies (SES) or maybe if you can find a local conference in your area is a great way to learn and network with newbies as well. Some newbies may have the best tips as they’ve been doing research just like you.

Most online marketing I would say revolves around business to consumer lead generation when it comes to lead gen. Generating business to business leads I would say is extremely similar to how you generate b2c leads.

Two methods of generating b2b leads:

1) Pay-Per-Click: Business owners are consumers. They also search the internet for services such as debt leads, mortgage leads, credit repair leads, etc. Owners of these service providers LIVE of leads and always need them. Create a killer landing page and start creating campaigns in the following engines:

-Google Adwords
-Yahoo Search Marketing
-Business.com
-Bing
-YellowPages.com

2) EMAIL MARKETING: Email list/eMail marketing can be a big b2b lead generation tactic if you can find a way to capitalize on how successful email marketing is. What do I mean? Many, MANY, business publications out there have newsletter with thousands of emails from business owners who subscribe to business news publications of all sorts, entrepreneurs, you name it.

Some of these publications sell space in their newsletters as ads. This would be a great way to generate leads for your busienss to business lead geneartion needs. You can also ask for the newsletter if they dont sell banner ad space, you can see if they would do text link sell, YES, in thier newsletter.

These are two very quick way you can start generating b2b leads.

Submission of press releases online is growing in popularity as a pretty solid SEO tactic. Through press release, you can do some good link building, especially if you have a real good press release that will catch the attention of media outlets and bloggers if you’re lucky. Most of the time, that’s really not the case but that what you hope for.

In any case, promoting your press release online is very important and there are a couple of things you can do to optimize the exposure of your press release in some easy steps.

1) Start by submitting your press releases to free services. Here is a good list to start:
Free Press Release Submission Websites which was a post from last month.

2) Find niche blogs and media outlets that you can email press release. Do not just email press release though, that, for the most part, will not work. Write a subject like attention to a contact if possible and website name. Let them know why the press release is important and how their readership can benefit from it.

3) Comment on VERY related blog post regarding the news and a link to the press release. The other day I dropped a URL on a comment from a popular blog, very related, and got a few hits, and rolls in little by little everyday. Targeted traffic, whatever the amount, is GOOD traffic.

4) If you still need more sources, type in 1-5 keywords in Google News. See what your competition or WHERE your competition is submitting their press release and try to submit there as well.

5) DONT BE CHEAP. With much understanding, if you’re working with no budget, do whatever and everything you can to get free exposure for your press release, but if you have some money you can play with to get some exposure, websites like PRWeb and other PR wire services is definitely worth the money. Not only will give you some good link juice to your page granted you purchase a plan that will suffice giving you a link with anchor text but will also get you the exposure your PR needs.

I hear all the time, and read on forums, people who start blogs and go for about 6 months to a year, after that time, some bloggers (or websites for that matter) get stagnant on traffic. Although new content is being created, traffic from older post just fall off.

Here are some ways to increase traffic to your blog:

1- Sign up to forums in your niche. Link out to your post if the thread is relevant and engage users. YOUR READERS are the people in the forums looking for information you may have already written about that they can use.

2- You can use Pay-Per-Click as a channel to drive more traffic. Choose the most affordable keywords and create large ad groups bidding very low for relevant keywords. This will surely increase your traffic. You may pay at first but long-term results can be well worth it.

3- Offer something for FREE. Offering something such as a free EBOOK can increase traffic because either readers will share it with others or other bloggers will link to the page driving traffic. Make sure to include your blogs URL anywhere you offer something free.

4- Write guest post in blogs similar to your niche. THIS DOES WORK. Reach out to the bigger blogs in your niche and ask to write a guest post. They will be happy to add more good relevant content so why not? Also a good network resource.

5- You can always find something worth while about your blog everyone should know. There are plenty of free PRESS RELEASE websites out there that allow you to place a link to your blog.

6- Article marketing is still a good way to drive traffic. It may not be the best SEO resource, but if you write quality content and place a link back to your blog, it will surely make a difference. Submit your articles to websites such as eZine.

7- Twitter has been a great channel as a traffic driver. Place a link to good post from your blogs and try to get as many followers as possible. Remember to add twitter buttons to ALL your post.

8- Social bookmarking websites is still a MAJOR source of traffic and can not only help you with link building but driving traffic. Submit your post to pages such as DIGG.com, PROPELLER.com, and others. You can find good list online for these.

9- Create and Submit RSS Feeds. Feeds can always be a good source of traffic. Submit your blogs RSS feeds to all the blog rss feed directories you can. If you find some with good PR, even better.

10- Comment on other related blog post and IF POSSIBLE AND REALTED, place a link to a related story you wrote.

Without a good landing page, you might as well shut your campaign down. How many times have I heard, “Im running Adwords but not really converting.” Here is the thing. If you are getting a good amount of clicks for the right keyword and you’re not converting, its most likely a landing page issue unless your ad copy is just crap.
