Which Google Adsense Ads Are Currently Converting Best?

January 20, 2010 by Pablo Palatnik

In August 2008, I wrote a post titled, “Best Performing Adsense Ads Explained,” which talked about, well, the best performing Adsense ads and which convert best. At that time, I had a blog project going and testing and I blogged about the best converting ads that worked. From that post, I explained, “This {image} is the 300×250 ad that is said to convert best. I have started to implement this and it does convert. The links (as suggested) should be blue with black text and black URL display. Also, NO BORDERS.”

I have since then, kept my inline Adsense Text advertising and I’m seeing some results in Adsense as of late (very little as the online marketing niche doesnt click on much Adsense ads.) I wan’t to test different Ads and see what is converting best, but it also has to look good. So, how can I see what type of ads and how they are displayed can convert best. Easy, let me see Googles case studies. If they do a case study about a certain site, it means that account holder/website owner probably has a good account with Google and so they are chosen for this. You can see this by going to the Adsense blog.

Look at AskDavidTaylor.com for example.

I really like how he displays the AD wrapped around the text which doesnt seem to have a border around the block, if it does, than it is a light grey border. These are his tips:
-Focus on generating really good content that meets real user needs.
-Design your blog so that there are minimal distractions for the user.
-Wrap your blog entry around the Google ad unit and put the ads where users will see them, though make sure you have them visually distinct from your content: trying to trick readers into clicking on ads is a definite no-no and anti-reader too.

It seems techniques and strategy for Adsense have been remaining steady for the past 1-2 years. Text Ads are what work best, in my opinion, and through integrating ads with content.
