Google Adwords Tip for Local Search Marketing
October 7, 2009 by Pablo Palatnik
Forums are a GREAT place to discuss tips, strategies, etc. So, I came across a very quick thread about an idea I really never gave thought to but makes sense so I’ll share the tip with you guys. Most local business owners such as service oriented companies do local Adwords campaigns. This actually can be applied to all engines, not just Google Adwords.

Google Geo-Target on Google Adwords
As you know, the way the search engines do targeted local search is by user IP addresses. What about all the people that are local but don’t use a local service provider but use an internet provider such as a wireless card such as AT&T, which to my understanding, can have out of town IP addresses? This means you can be missing out on local users using this type of service.
When making a local campaign, not only should you be using broad keywords where only local users will find you but also create a new ad group or campaign with geo keywords such as ‘city name + keyword’. For example, let’s say you have a hair salon. In one ad group you would have your broad such as:
Hair Salon
Womens Hair Salon
in the geo keyword ad group, you would have:
Manhattan Hair Salon
Manhattan Womens Hair Salon

Hello from Russia!
Can I quote a post in your blog with the link to you?
Fantastic site, I really like your writing style. Very distinctive and concise. On a lot of blogs people just drone on and on, but not you – very nice. Keep up the fine work! Don’t have time to read everything here, I found your site while looking for something else on about.com. But I’ve bookmarked your homepage and will visit it regularly to read your latest postings. I find working from home very interesting. I have learned a lot in staring a small blog about it myself. Seems like there is something new to learn all the time. Please bookmark my site at http://www.LinkThe.com. Thanks again!
Nice post. I have used press releases and found them to be effective.
