A Good Case of the Mondays… Cyber Monday…
December 2, 2008 by Pablo Palatnik
It is almost midnight and if you have e-commerce websites, I really hope you ramped up and took Cyber Monday serious because…it is. I wrote a post previous to this one titled, “Cyber Monday Tips From Google & Yahoo for Search Marketing.” It is truly a day where the media officially announced would be a day where the internet would have great sale similar to what Black Friday is to retail stores or malls.
Sales on one of my websites is up 47% previous to what last Monday was, and last Monday was a good day as well. 47% increase in sales is a big jump and you have to know how to compete in an enviroment where your competitors, your serious ones, know the meaning of Cyber Monday and will ramp up bids on strong keywords and will change their ads accordingly.
Cyber Monday was a strong keyword today which you can always look at what keywords are hot though Google Trends.

This was around 1pm.
Taking a look at this, I decided it was time to bid on Cyber Monday keywords since it would be a good branding strategy since bidding on such a broad keyword wouldn’t really bring the ROI you’d want from someone typing in “Cyber Monday” and offering them an ad selling earings, per say.
Some of the biggest companies in the world market specifically on this day to bring in more sales and give that feeling of giving consumers better savings. Some really do, some just keep the same sale they always do. Either way, if you’re a small advertiser, wouldnt you want to be next to some of the biggest companies in the world?

Since it is a broad keyword, many small business don’t have it in their budget to bid on such a broad keyword since like I said previously, probably wont be the keyword(s) that will bring in the sales, but I personally think its one of the best branding tactics on days like these. Today, I bid on the keyword “Cyber Monday” and other words. For about .25 cents, you can make the first page today.

Thats not to say you would, but thats around give or take what Google would ask you at FIRST, adjusting its quality score while your ad is running. My bid kept increasing every hour or so.
Hope you had a good Cyber Monday!
