Cyber Monday Tips From Google & Yahoo for Search Marketing

November 27, 2008 by Pablo Palatnik

Tomorrow is Black Friday, which means it is THE busiest shopping day of the year! People flock to malls, etc to look for the best sales they can possibly find. Given the economic climate, Black Friday might not be what it has been in past years but that wont stop people from seeking out sales.

Monday, it is the BUSIEST online shopping day of the year. It’s time to ramp up budgets and get ready for a BIG SALE on your website. Even if you continue to have the same sale you’ve always had, it’s time to push these holiday names on your site. One very strong and great tactic I believe works great for branding is making sure your site has the look and feel of the holiday to show the user you’re up-to-date and your business is infact following the trend of having big sales on these days.

What are the Google Adwords tips for Cyber Monday?

-Check your budgets, and consider increasing them. You’re likely to see increased traffic and you won’t want to exhaust your budget early on a day when there are so many potential buyers.

-Give customers peace of mind about shipping times. One of the most stressful parts of online holiday shipping is not knowing if a present will make it in time. Be up front about delivery dates and let customers know ordering deadlines for gifts to make it in time for the holidays.

-Promote any special offerings in your ad text. If you have a holiday special that differentiates you from the competition, be sure to showcase it in your ad.

What are the Yahoo Search Marketing tips for Cyber Monday?

-Call out any special holiday deals. Users always respond to things like discounts, coupons and sales, but the holidays and the current economic downturn make a good deal look even better.

-Highlight lower-priced items when possible. If the price is right, things that may have once seemed like impulse purchases may now be irresistible to consumers looking to score a sweet last-minute deal online.

-If you offer free shipping, be sure to include that in your ad copy. Free shipping is an extremely popular (if not the most popular) incentive for consumers, so if you offer it—even with restrictions—be sure to let your customers know.

-Stress the ease and convenience that online shopping offers over the traditional mall shopping experience. Be very direct in stating how consumers can save time, money, fuel and hassle by buying online, rather than schlepping to pricey, crowded shopping destinations.
