Yahoo Clicks Cost More Than Google Clicks

October 22, 2008 by Pablo Palatnik

You would think with the struggles in competition against Google in paid search, Yahoo will charge advertisers less per click to keep them coming back to advertise. Truth be said, if you’re an online advertiser and you’re advertising in Google, chances are you are most likely also advertising in Yahoo and MSN.

pay-per-click

My findings in the past month is that Yahoo clicks are more expensive for a lot less traffic than that of Googles. Yahoo seems to be converting well just behind MSN but not half as much as Google. I am paying less for clicks with Google and getting more than double the traffic.

Here is what others are saying from the DP forum about the cost of Yahoo clicks and conversions as well:

” …have been using both for a few months now and I get a few more hits from google but I pay much more to yahoo. I think the problem is my inexprience and not having the time to spend to figure things out.”

“I don’t see much of a difference in conversion rates, but I am paying more on a CPC basis for the Yahoo traffic than for the Google traffic, and getting way less traffic from Yahoo.”

“I ran identical campaigns on Yahoo and Google today. Google drove 509 clicks to my site versus 46 clicks from Yahoo.”

“Yup… I always spend about 2X as much with Yahoo than Google (same exact campaigns, ads, keywords). My experience is that they convert better too”

Also, as Google has much more strict quality score guidelines, you pay more with Yahoo because advertisers can basically bid any keyword without having that $5.00 or $10.00 minimum bid. Yahoo also rolled out a minimum bid per keyword but never hit advertisers as hard as Google did.
