Google Monetizes YouTube Through Music Sales with Apple and Amazon
Written by Pablo Palatnik on October 8, 2008
Google announced it has partnered with Apples iTunes store and Amazon to sell music through YouTube videos.
As the press release from Returers states, ” …is taking the first steps toward building an e-commerce service through which it will sell music, films, TV shows, video games, books, concert tickets and other media-related products featured on the millions of videos on YouTube.

This isn’t the first time Google is finding a way to monetize YouTube as t has used its Adsense platform to monetize its videos which may not have proven to be too successful.
Visitors to YouTube.com can buy songs from music videos they watch on the site by clicking on buttons that take them either to Amazon (NSDQ: AMZN).com Inc’s MP3 store or Apple Inc’s iTunes store.
YouTube users will also be able to buy video games, such as Electronic Arts Inc’s sci-fi game “Spore” through the Amazon link.
Amazon and iTunes will share revenue with YouTube when users buy content through the partnership.
Investors have been asking Google when it would start to generate meaningful revenue and earnings from YouTube, for which the Web search leader paid $1.65 billion in 2006.”

Well I was hoping to beat YouTube to the punch on making an announcement. I have been developing this on my site http://NowScene.com. It seemed only logical for YouTube which is now becoming the place for artists to get exposure, to incorporate links for people to purchase MP3s. I show a link to Amazon next to every live music video I display. Works pretty well. But because the video title also contains location information. I inform my customers to click the link then remove any extra text from the artist information for better results. But I will make improvements in the future.
More power to YouTube’s success with this. I certainly believe in the concept since I developed this too. More improvements in the future since this the site is still early stage. But I wanted it documented that I did this first before YouTube made their announcement today.

Randy-
I checked out your website, very cool. It’s yet to be seen if this will prove successful for YouTube, it was just announced today. I’m sure it will work…how well remains to be seen.

Thanks Pablo very much appreciated. You can email me and I’ll give you an update once the other features are added.
I really want people to feel they are at the scene. Not just a music video search but being entertained as well. Nice to check out the local vibes in other cities. I like going to Key West myself.
