Google PageRank Update is Official

September 29, 2008 by Pablo Palatnik

The Google pagerank update seems to have been updated web wide this weekend (September 27th) and the PalatnikFactor.com went from a PR 4 to a PR 5. I’ve actually seen many sites lose pagerank with this update.

Should you really be concerned with pagerank? No. I have to admit, I was really happy to see that green bar go up a notch and it is without a doubt an inidcation of the link building structure of your website in terms of how google is looking at your website in terms of links. The search engine will continually try to improve its algorithm to how it “judges” links pointing into your website.

Googles explanation of PageRank:
PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important”.

Back to the point of being concerned with pagerank. At the end of the day, its not about how much pagerank your website has, its about how you’re ranking in the search engines and focusing on a sound link building strategy for your website.

You should see quaterly pageranks happen from now.

    Thanks for the information.

I saw my page increase from a pr 2 to 3 this weekend.

  3. My blog stayed the same at a measly pagerank 1. Still as you say it’s not that important – I agree that search engine ranking is more important in the long run.
