August 29, 2008 by Pablo Palatnik

One thing you’ll come to learn (if you haven’t already) is that once you get invovled in a forum, you form part of that community. That community may become your best resource for information regarding what you do. In this case of course, we are in the online marketing industry and in this industry, everyone has an opinion, a tip, or a question. I can go on about how helpful forums can be to your current strategies or just plain keeping up with what’s going on, so, here is a list of forums you may consider joining.

SEOBook.com also has what should be a great forum for SEOs but you have to pay for it.

  3. This reminds me of one of my new years resolutions and posts from January this year. I found that I was spending a lot of time on forums in which the quality of the advice and discussion was poor. I liked it since I was one of the better informed guys on the forum. But, it was full of misinformation and ignorance. Similarly, I was hanging out on blogs where I knew the people and they answered my comments rather than reading the best stuff.

I resolved that going forward, I would stay on forums with a very high quality of discussion and with highly informed opinions.

Bottom line: Decide whether you are reading for fun or for work. If it’s work, be very discriminating. Start with Matt Cutt’s blog and work down thru less authoritative sources. But stay near the top.

    My two cents.

Digitalpoint?? You must be joking. V7N?? Again; you must be joking.

Why don’t you ask someone like Matt Cutts to give an actually good list of forums? Lists like this are nutty. Some of those forums will actually hurt anyone who reads and learns from them. That’s a fact.

    SEF
    WMW
    HR

Are the ONLY ones on your list worth a damn. Period.

I made this list really for beginners who are getting in the industry and when I was starting out a while ago, these forums helped and gave me ideas.

Yes, I agree with you, there is a lot of crap, as well as some good stuff. Just like the blogosphere.

I mainly answer questions as best as I could on forums. I’m only a member of 2 of those forums but others may be worth checking out if you’re starting out and looking for certain information. It is just a resource of information, shouldn’t fully depend on it of course.

  6. I’d have to agree with Doug on V7n. I have spent way too much time on that forum: it’s not a source of reliable information. In fact, other than the forum owner and few other moderators & individuals, most of the posts are garbage…

In this day and age, I would point everyone towards sphinn
