Written by Pablo Palatnik on August 22, 2008

The future is now. Yahoo and Intel (Designs, develops, manufactures and markets microcomputer components of desktop and server systems) have announced what they are calling the “widget channel,” which will be an optimized television application designed for TV and other electronic consumer products.

There are so many things I can image this doing it will literally change the way we watch television. Both companies said the channels “will allow consumers to enjoy rich Internet applications designed for the TV while watching their favorite TV program.”

It seems like the possibilities for this could be endless and the beginning of breakthrough technology that will bring along other competitors such as Google, MSN, and new blood to test these waters if this goes through which whether it happens with Yahoo and Intel partnering up or not, it will happen with someone else.

“TV will fundamentally change how we talk about, imagine and experience the Internet,” said Eric Kim, Intel senior vice president and general manager of the company’s Digital Home Group. “No longer just a passive experience unless the viewer wants it that way, Intel and Yahoo are proposing a way where the TV and Internet are as interactive and seamless as possible.
