SEO are spammers – Some of Them.

Published by Pablo Palatnik under SEO

Like every industry, or almost every industry, you have some sort of spam hitting your inbox. I’ve blogged about the SEO industry several times since the whole Shoemoney thing happened about disliking 95% of SEOs.

So, how or why are SEO spammers? I’m not even talking about the actual optimizing, I’m talking about hitting people up or companies for work.

Take at this email I got for example:

“I am trying to contact Pablo Palatnik.

Anyway I specialize in getting sites
listed at the top of Google in organic listings.
Since you already do some type of advertising in MSN, I know you need to get more placement in Google. I was wondering
if you could get back with me as soon as possible.
I look forward to working with your site.

In today's Internet Economy everything is about
performance. I know I can help drive traffic to
your site.

After the first month, it is only $300 month.
That's all there is to it.
I hope that sounds good to you.
I look forward to hearing some kind of response.”

My response:

“Hi ———-,

Can you gurantee any results for $300 a month in organic placement?”

His Response:

Hi Pablo. Give me a call. 1888-359—–
I just emailed you. We can guarantee top page placement.

What a load of crap…never guarantee anything, one of the first rules of SEO. Anyway, more and more people are using this tactic. Hungry for business and being unethical with potential customers won’t get you too far.

Zuckerberg Reveals Financial Details of Facebook

Published by Pablo Palatnik under Social Media

Finally, Zuckerberg made public the financial details of the social media giant Facebook which many have been awaiting on the speculation of the company going public and the big money Microsoft paid for a share of the company.

These numbers were recorded by Kara Swisher of All Things Digital. These figures were reported on an open call to employees.

Some highlights as reported by allthingsd.com:

“Revenue for Facebook for 2007 will be $150 million, as has been widely reported. But for 2008, Zuckerberg projected revenue to be increased to $300 million to $350 million.

More interesting was the news that Facebook would spend $200 million next year on capital expenditures, which is a whole lot of servers.

By the way, more expenses, noted chatty Mark, those employee levels would rise to more than 1,000 in 2008 from 450 now.”

Doesn’t seem too much in revenue for the giant that Facebook is and may have been a bit overvalued by Microsoft when buying a share of the company. Facebook has launched Facebook ads in Q4 of 2007 and should see a higher revenue in Q1 of 2008, let’s remember, Facebook hasn’t really focused too much on capitalizing on the site. Plus, if you count the monetization by app developers, it could well overexceed that $150 million figure.

MattCuts.com & DannySulivan.com - Capitalizing on a Popular Name

Published by Pablo Palatnik under Ideas

I don’t know how, I really don’t, I stumbled upon MattCuts.com. Now, I guess Matt only wanted to spend that $8.99 for the double tt and not the single t, but that’s what happens, a spammer came along and took advantage of the name.

It’s registered to ServerCube.com, unless that belongs Matt, then someone else is using it to monetize on the possibility of traffic.

It could also be that somehow, somewhere, there may be another Matt Cuts or its just the name of something but who knows, just found it interesting.

Then, I also thought, who else is a name in the industry someone would use to capitalize on some traffic. Sure enough, typed in DannySulivan.com and came across a site filled with AdSense.

It’s privately registered so I can’t tell who owns it…does Danny Sullivan own it?
