Merc- Thanks for checking it out. Yeah, once you make a profile on the site itself if you’re into music, it’s really cool. Hope you enjoyed the podcast =).

  3. Hi Pablo,

I just listened to your podcast. I found it fascinating because it is a subject close to my heart. Was particlularly interested in you discussion on the difficulties you had with Sojjo. I also spotted the fact that digg was missing a vibrant sports community and 2 weeks ago launched a http://www.yourhorseracingnews.com a pligg based site focused on the UK horseracing market.

It is also proving difficult for us to generate the community of regular contributors who drive the majority of the content. My strategy is to approach the people who are already involved in social media in the racing category, be they bloggers, members of facebook groups or forums. I will let you know how we get on. Any tips you have from your experience would be much appreciated!

    Thanks

    Fraser-

Thanks for the listening and the compliment on the podcast. You choose a tough niche there…how much news is there about horse racing?

Here are some of my suggestions. If you are having getting traffic, start a PPC campaign and see how that works, make sure you create some landing page as I did for Sojjo so people understand what the site is about and how they can use it to interact with other users…the regular joe is online surfing standard websites all day so this is still a new concept to almost all…i dont think you’ll have too much of a young crowd. Make sure to use the Google content network as well which will put your ad in all horse racing related websites in the UK.

OFFLINE marketing. Have you given that a thought? Make business cards size cards promoting the website and take them to the horse race and try to solicit the site if its legal to solicit at the track. I was going to do the same with Sojjo, had everything ready to print and start taking it to local sports bars. I’m sure the person betting on horses, etc every weekend or whatever the case maybe will be interested in visiting your website to check on news.

Let me know what else you’ve been doing to generate traffic and interest.
