Is Chris Crocker A YouTube Genius?
Written by Pablo Palatnik on October 3, 2007
Okay, if you haven’t seen the Chris Crocker YouTube clip titled, “Leave Britney Alone”…You may be living under a rock or don’t watch late night TV or the Soup on E!
{Video Clip Contains Profanity}
You may look at this clip and think…”this guy is an idiot”…well MAYBE NOT. As dumb and ridiculous as this video may seem, it has been a genius marketing tactic by this guy. He had videos prior to this and this just took him all the way to the top with MILLIONS of YouTube views and appearances and publicity on late night shows like Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel.
Now, If he knew a bit about online marketing, this guy could have made thousands of dollars over night with this video through ads, etc. I may just start thinking of crazy videos to put up on YouTube and chart my results here.
WHAT’S YOUR TAKE?

Good point Pablo. He is probably not thinking about the Marketing behind all this but he could monetize the hell out of this exposure if he partners with a SEM consultant.
As with any viral, there’s a lesson for all of us to learn.

@ GotranRaider: Well, it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to approach this guy somehow. I checked out ChrisCrocker.com and it’s taken. This guy could not only monetize the hell out of the video (before…not so much now), but capitalize on his new found fame, that’s where I would make my case as an SEM Const.

I think he has to have been consciously thinking about what he was doing to be considered a “genius.” I doubt that was the case when he made the video.
Having said that, it’s turned out well for him. Apparently, he’s getting his own TV show as a result of this. I guess it’s a case of the old cliche: there is no negative attention.
