A Quick & Simple Look At Reddit

May 13, 2007 by Pablo Palatnik

With the growing popularity of the social bookmarks, we can soon begin breaking them down into tiers soon like we do with the engines. In terms of social bookmarks, we can categorize Digg, Stumbleupon, & Netscape as 1st tier, and the rest 2nd tier which would include Reddit, Delicious, etc.
Reddit
Not too much is said about Reddit, but it has given me good results in terms of driving traffic. Reddit is very alike to Delicious if you haven’t seen or used it. Users submit and vote on stories. Reddit has developed widgets as well for its users to “like” or “dislike” stories which makes it more user-friendly and makes the user more active. Stumble developed a similar toolbar widget that I know makes me a more active user than if I had to go to the site every time.

Traffic Rank for reddit.com: 826

I’m not a fan of the Reddit homepage, but if you haven’t implemented it as part of your bookmarking strategies, go ahead and give it a try, it really does drive traffic. From looking at the front page it’ hard to say exactly what the target demographic is as you will see the stories range from politics to weird facts. I’ve had success in submitting business stories, international does well.
