Globalizing Your Online Business –Quick Tips.
April 11, 2007 by Pablo Palatnik
The internet has opened the doors to allow us to take our businesses world wide. In the click of a button through search, anyone in the world can visit your website and be a potential buyer for your product.
Now, this really applies to those who sell a product on their website, you can’t sell a service to someone who is too far away (but that really depends so we won’t leave that out..as we see an increase in outsourcing services). For this post’ purposes, I’m talking about selling a product worldwise.
According to an article on eMarketer, “Over 30% of the marketing executives surveyed had already globalized their sites, which involves translation and localization for audiences around the world. Another 17% planned to do so within the next year.â€
About 2 ½-3 years ago I was involved in a project selling clothing on eBay, and to my surprise it went well but most of the sales came from aboard. If you do your research on logistics regarding shipping costs to other countries and see the opportunity to start marketing your site/product abroad, give it a shot. People WILL pay for shipping if they want the product! Keep in mind, Europe’s Euro is strong and they save money purchasing products in the U.S.
How can I Start?
*Pay-Per-Click campaigns abroad
*eBay
*Sellproducts.Globalsources.com
**Very important- If you haven’t done so, translate your website to the language of countries you are targeting. “Over 16% of US sites offer some Spanish-language content on their sites, and another 22% plan to do so during the next 12 months. Small companies are especially interested in adding Spanish to their sites.â€-eMarketer.
