MSN Adcenter Improving Quality & Product Search

Published by Pablo Palatnik under SEM, Industry News

Of course, following Google’s quality score and Yahoo implementing a quality score as well, now its MSN’s turn to change their algorithm in the way they judge ad rank for paid search.

MSN Adcenter

Im sure most you of noticed in the past week less traffic or a lot or your words rejected, it is the cause of MSN’s newly implemented Quality Score. How is it judged? It basically follows Google’s model where CTR and Relevancy play a major role. Again, a high bid will get you good ranks. Common sense, if you’re on top, you’re going to get clicks, just make sure your landing page is relevant with all keywords you bid on.

Brue Clay indicates some of the recent changes to Adcenters quality score:
•Assessing the content of the ad and landing page in relation to the user’s likely intent.
•Assessing the keywords that an advertiser selects in relation to the advertiser’s landing page content, to confirm that they are substantially relevant to both the landing page and the user’s search query.
•Trying to ensure that there is substantive content on the landing page to fulfill the user’s query.
•Assessing the duplicative nature of content in overall search results. In cases where there may be content that is duplicated within search results (including landing pages) Microsoft reserves the right to limit advertising of the duplicate content when it lessens the user experience.

In other news, MSN has also improved their BETA product search. Still having some problems with product picture feeds from sites such as Amazon.com, BestBuy.com but reported to have an improvement rate of about 9% in their current changes.

Domain Names Have Become True Commodities

Published by Pablo Palatnik under Industry News

If you’re a domain name freak like myself, every time you think of a domain name, you run to the computer for a quick purchase. Business idea, Domain Name. Website Idea, Domain Name.

Here is the thing, the process is becoming longer and longer every time. Domain names have become true commodities, and perhaps have always been. I’m building quite a nice domain portfolio but on average spend about 25 minutes until I find what I was looking for (which now never happens), but at least close to it (and maybe not even that anymore). The time has come where I actively seek the registered entity or person and haunt them down for an offer.

SEO wise, this is also becoming more and more of an issue in terms of keywords in your domain, and also age plays a part.

Domain names are really important although never really touched upon anywhere. Let’s look at some things it can affect.

*Potential Organic Results
*Display URL CTR in PPC Campaigns
*Branding
*Potential Future Value of Website or Name Itself

If you like to buy stocks, think about starting your own domain portfolio, which I also consider it to be like buying property which it really is. If you have a good domain name, hold on to it until you get a good offer. A .com is a .com, wont be replaced by a .net, .info, whatever.

GoDaddy.com

I like registering all my domains at GoDaddy.com (not a paid advertisement). Good customer service, 24/7. GoDaddy.com is an Inc. 500 company with a growth rate at 742.4% (in 06’) and generating a revenue estimated at $139.8mil. The company is reporting further growth and only means one things. IT’S A GROWING BUSINESS. $8.95 p/y for something that can literally be worth hundreds of thousands, not much to think about.

A Look At Meshly.com- New Concepts Welcomed In My Book

Published by Pablo Palatnik under Social Media

Meshly.com is something I just heard about a few days ago. Just another Social Media website jumping in the bandwagon with a new twist. I’m not sure if the Meshly.com model exist already, but basically you are submitting your links through Instant Messanger. Think DIGG with a lot less traffic and a new tool to bookmark stories.

Meshly.com

Right now, the website looks disorganized with post in different languages and no set structure which hopefully, with growth, establishes itself.

How Meshly.com Works?

mesh.gif

Meshly.com data is not available at the moment and don’t really expect any for a while as this I believe has just launched. With so many social websites entering the market, few will survive the competition of Myspace, Facebook, Digg, etc..Meshly.com falls under the ‘Social Bookmarking’ umbrella.

While I think the concept of the IM is convenient for the user, the toolbar used StumbleUpon (WHICH I HOPE DIGG COMES OUT WITH) is way more convenient for the user.
